I will be your personal guide to one of my favourite places in the world!
The TV series Doc Martin is hugely popular in many places across the world.
It has a fantastic cast and heart warming story lines, but in many ways the real star of the show is beautiful Cornwall in south west England. The show is filmed in and around the gorgeous fishing village of Port Isaac (Port Wenn in the show)
This is a real village, not just a film set, and in some cases the local characters are just as interesting as the ones in the show.
Port Isaac can be difficult to get to so let me do all the work for you!
Cornwall is about 4.5 hours from London, so we will depart early to make the most of our trip. (Other pick up locations are possible if you are not staying in London) We will break up the journey with a quick stop at Bath to stretch our legs and take refreshment before heading on down through Devon and in to Cornwall.
Arriving around lunchtime in Port Isaac (Port Wenn) We will stop for a bite to eat. Perhaps you can tuck in to a traditional Cornish Pasty or the huge Fish & Chips at the Golden Lion Pub (the real life pub that is renamed the Crab & Lobster in the TV series)
Then we can explore the Village -
The Village School where Louisa is Head Teacher
Mrs Tishell's Pharmacy
Aunty Ruth's house & Other characters homes.
Key filming locations.
And of course the Doc's surgery and Cottage.
For those with some energy we will walk to the top of the
village and on to the cliffs to get a beautiful view of the village
often used in the filming.
Once we have toured the Village we can make the short trip on foot or by car to Port Gaverne - Home to PC Penhale and the beach
often used for filming scenes and story lines.
Then perhaps it will be time for a traditional Cornish Cream Tea? Or perhaps some souvenir shopping at Mrs Tishells?
After seeing the sights of Port Isaac you may want to freshen up at your accomodation and then head into the village for some truly
exceptional seafood fresh from the local fishermen to your plate or other locally sourced food. I will leave you to enjoy your evening in Port Isaac as you wish, but will be on hand for anything you need.
The village is beautiful at night
This is a bespoke trip, so when you are finished with breakfast I will meet you and we will head off to discover some of the other filming locations from the series.
On the road to Tintagel we will stop and take a peek at Aunty Joan's and currently Ruth's farm. We will also pass through Delabole a village often referenced in the show, and Martin Clunes preferred place to stay while filming takes place.
The local school in the village is often used for filming, and some of the children take part as extras.
We will then head on to the village of Tintagel. Many scenes have been shot here. -
Martin and Louisa's wedding reception
PC Penhale's Wedding Service
Camelot Castle Hotel - Restaurant Scenes
For those interested in the legends of King
Arthur you will have heard of Tintagel Castle
as the birthplace of King Arthur.
And if time permits we can schedule a visit.
After you have seen the village we can take lunch before heading back to London. I can also drop you at other places like Bath, Bristol, Glastonbury if preferred. I will aim to have you back to your accommodation between 6-8pm depending on the schedule you would like to keep.
Remember, this trip is fully personalised. If you have certain places you want to see, or have favourite episodes of the show let me know and I will taylor the tour to you.
